Employees donate Christmas gifts to care center residents

Employees of Canyon County have provided Christmas gifts to 90 residents from two area care centers. Gifts for 12 residents of Caldwell Care Center and 78 residents from Canyon West Health Care and Rehabilitation were purchased, wrapped and donated by employees from all departments in Canyon County. Canyon County Courthouse and other offices will close at noon Dec. 24, to allow employees to spend time with their families during the Christmas holiday. Residents of Canyon County, small business owners and schools will have an opportunity to dispose of mercury and prescription drugs during the first Merc and Meds Community Drop-Off Day. Organizers will be on hand from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20 to accept mercury from schools and small business owners. Properties which have unpaid property taxes for 2006 may be returned to the county if taxes and fees are not paid. More positive West Nile mosquitoes

The Canyon County Mosquito Abatement District is reporting two more positive West Nile Virus tests. Both of these results came from one trap located at Caldwell Ponds, Idaho State Department of Fish and Game fishing area. The trap contained 285 Culex mosquitoes. CCMAD started West Nile Virus response in this area over the weekend and will continue through the next couple of days. Follow-up testing will be conducted later in the week. This is the fourth reported West Nile Virus test for Canyon County. Follow-up testing on the previous announced locations on Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge and Parma have returned negative West Nile Virus activity.    Read More...

County residents save $43,500 with Prescription Discount Cards

In just over four months of use, the Canyon County Prescription Discount Card has saved county residents more than $43,500 on their prescriptions. Since its introduction in mid-February, the card has been used 4,841 times by 2,278 people, who’ve saved an average of $9, or 22.39 percent on their prescriptions.   Read More...

Assessor's Office to close early on Fridays

Beginning Friday, July 17, the Canyon County Assessor’s Office will close on Fridays at 4 p.m. This change is implemented in response to a resolution signed by the Board of County Commissioners in May, providing each employee one hour off per week, designated as an Employee Appreciation Hour. Mosquitoes test positive for West Nile Virus

Mosquitoes testing positive for West Nile Virus have been found in Canyon County. According to Canyon County Mosquito Abatement District Director Ed Burnett, a trap containing 95 Culex tarsalis mosquitoes testing positive was collected from a site on the Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge. Burnett said CCMAD has been monitoring a spike in the Culex tarsalis mosquitoes throughout the county over the past two weeks.   Read More...

The Third Judicial District Bar Association donated $1,000 to the Court Appointed Special Advocates after a barbecue July 1 for members of the Third District Bar and Canyon County employees. County's response to ACLU filing March 27

It has come to Canyon County’s attention that the ACLU has filed a motion for preliminary injunction with the federal district court. The ACLU’s attorneys have not provided the Commissioners or the county attorneys a copy of the motion, and therefore Canyon County cannot respond with any specificity with respect to any allegations made by the ACLU.   However, it is believed that this motion for preliminary injunction is related to the ACLU’s current complaint in federal district court alleging cruel and unusual treatment of inmates.   Read More...

Hearing set to consider raising copy fees

County rezone meeting set for Jan. 29

Ferdinand, Rule lead Board

The Canyon County Commissioners Jan. 12 re-elected David Ferdinand to be the board’s chairman, and elected Steve Rule as vice-chair. Ferdinand has served as commissioner for 4 1/2 years, after being appointed to fill the last months of Todd Lakey’s term. Rule is beginning his third year on the board. Wednesday meeting to discuss alternate transportation routes

A public meeting will be held Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, to gather input and collect opinions from the public regarding proposed transportation corridors through Canyon County, specifically regarding the proposed Western Route Corridor, projected to align with the Kuna-Mora Corridor in Ada County.   Read More...

New location for swearing-in of new elected officials

The swearing-in ceremony for newly-elected officials will be held in the Public Meeting Room on the first floor of the courthouse, instead of in a third-floor courtroom as previously planned. The ceremony begins at 9 a.m., and four people elected to county office in November will be sworn in. Those include commissioners Kathy Alder and Steve Rule, Prosecutor John Bujak and Sheriff Chris Smith.   Read More...

Beebe honored at retirement reception

Canyon County Commissioner Matt Beebe will be honored at a reception Friday, Jan. 9, which is also his last day in office. The reception will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Public Meeting Room at the courthouse. Beebe has been the commissioner for District 2 since 2000. Holiday courthouse closures

The Canyon County Courthouse will close early on Christmas Eve to allow employees to spend more time with their families on the holiday. The courthouse will close at 3 p.m. Dec. 24, and remain closed Dec. 25, but will reopen during regular business hours on Friday, Dec.  26.The following week, the courthouse will be closed Jan. 1, in observance of New Year’s Day, but will be open regular business hours Dec. 31 and Jan. 2.    Read More...

Between Sept. 22 and Oct. 16, the Canyon County Elections Office received 5,756 mailed requests for absentee ballots. Of those, 3,130 voted ballots have been returned to the Elections Office.   Read More...

Canyon County to offer prescription drug discount card

Canyon County will soon introduce a discount card program to help consumers cope with the high price of prescription drugs. The county has signed a contract to make free prescription drug cards available under a program sponsored by the National Association of Counties that offers average savings of 22 percent off the retail price of commonly prescribed drugs.   Read More...
